The five Dark levels
The Dark levels are progressively stronger adversarial analytical perspectives. A higher level does not mean greater certainty — it means a more guarded, strategic lens on the same facts.
Level 1
Light
Gently sceptical. Flags where the kinder reading might be too generous.
Level 2
Moderate
Weighs incentives and mixed motives alongside good faith.
Level 3
Firm
Treats patterns of pressure and inconsistency as significant until explained.
Level 4
Hardline
Assumes self-interest first and tests every claim against behaviour.
Level 5
Maximum
The most guarded reading available — for high-stakes situations, read alongside Normal.
Dark levels are analytical perspectives, not findings. The most cynical reading is not automatically the correct one.
